EU representatives and ministers of justice and interior of the Western Balkan countries discussed at the meeting held in Vienna the progress of these countries in the field of jurisdiction and internal affairs, including the fight against organised crime and corruption, and their reform.
Addressing the participants in the forum, Stojkovic said that the Serbian parliament will examine the national strategy for the fight against corruption next week, that the action plan for its implementation and the law on an independent anti-corruption body should be adopted soon, and that the national strategy for the fight against organised crime is being prepared.
The Serbian Minister of Justice said that the fight against organised crime is a security issue not only for Serbia and the Balkans, but also for the European Union as well, because problems such as trafficking in drugs and people and illegal migration don't have borders.
The participants in the forum praised Serbia-Montenegro's progress in the prevention of money laundering and the adoption of the Law on protection of witnesses in the criminal proceedings, as well as the work on the strategies for the fight against corruption and organised crime in Serbia.
The Ministry of Justice stated that one of the priorities in 2006 will be efficient implementation of the legislation preventing money laundering, and strengthening capacities for combating trafficking in narcotics and people.
The statement goes on to say that at the meeting in Vienna it was stressed that countries of the Western Balkans must find solutions to these problems, while the role of the EU is to give them support.
