Stojkovic and Lloveras agreed that major progress has been made in the process of European integration, especially in the area of legislative activity and reforms in the judiciary system, as has also been concluded in the previous report of the European Commission.
An agreement was also reached at the meeting that the priority of the Serbian Ministry of Justice in the upcoming period will be the continuation of implementing reforms in the judiciary, continuation of the training of office holders of the judiciary functions, increasing the efficiency of the judiciary system and fight against corruption and organised crime.
Stojkovic said that the members of the Serbian parliament will consider a text on the national strategy for fight against corruption in the upcoming week, adding that by the end of this year public discussion on the Action Plan will be concluded, and by the beginning of the next week the Draft Law on an independent anti-corruption body will also be finalised.
He said that a new statute and programme of the judicial centre are being prepared, as well as the text of the law on permanent training of office holders of the judiciary functions. He also said that according to an agreement with the President of the Serbian Supreme Court and Prosecutor for war crimes, the number of judges’ councils and deputy prosecutors will be increased with the aim of improving the efficiency of trials for those crimes.
He said that by the end of this year it is expected that special detention units for organised crime will be operational in the building of the Special Court, as well as an acceleration of the reconstruction of a correctional facility in Pozarevac, for those charged with the most serious criminal offences in the area of war crimes and organised crime.
Stojkovic and Lloveras reached agreement on intensive cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the European Commission in the upcoming period with the aim to implementing reforms in the judiciary in Serbia as fast and effectively as possible.
