The founding contract was signed on December 21, 2004 at the Belgian Embassy in Belgrade. Metallic holding participated with 75 percent, and Univerzal holding with 25 percent of the investment capital of approximately €600,000.
The Metech metal parts factory, covering 4,000 square metres, will initially employ 20 workers and the number is soon expected to increase, since it is the investors’ aim to double the factory’s targeted €400,000 turnover for 2005.
When the factory was put into operation, Liebaut said that Metech sets a nice example of successful business cooperation as well as of the kind of investment Serbia should use to attract small and medium-sized foreign investments. This should enable a transfer of technologies, opening of new jobs and an export-oriented production.
Belgian investors pointed out that hope for the future of this company lies in the cooperation between Belgian and Serbian companies, with support by the Belgian Embassy and the Serbian government, and added that they were attracted to invest in Serbia by its good investment climate and highly competent workforce employed in the metal industry.
Sekulovic recalled that Belgium has invested a lot in Serbia, adding that there are already over 20 realised projects that have led to the opening of several hundred new jobs.
Foreign investments are Serbia’s only solution for its greatest problem, and that is unemployment, Sekulovic said and added that the encouraging thing is $160 million in foreign direct investment in Serbia in the year to September.
