Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic said today following a meeting with representatives of the Coordinating Body for South Serbia, the Serbian government, OSCE and the Presevo municipality on the situation in judiciary and education in Presevo and Bujanovac that municipal courts in these two South Serbian municipalities will be bilingual.
Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic said at a press conference following the meeting that next year a teacher-training faculty will be introduced in Presevo, where studies will be conducted entirely in the Albanian language. These measures come at the request of the local self-government.
Vuksanovic said that during this school year the Serbian government secured 130 titles for primary and secondary schools, which enabled 12,000 students from Presevo and Bujanovac to study in the Albanian language without problems.
Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro Mauricio Massari praised the work of the Coordinating Body for South Serbia and announced a donation by the government of Norway worth €770,000 for the building of a training centre for members of the police force.
President of the Coordinating Body Rasim Lajic said that today’s meeting proved that all the conclusions of the eight working groups are being followed in full, and mayor of Presevo and deputy president of the Coordinating Body Riza Halimi expressed satisfaction with the fact that judiciary and education are becoming bilingual.
Halimi especially expressed gratitude to the representatives of the Serbian government on the decision to open a teacher-training faculty in Presevo.
Following the meeting and press conference, the new office of the Coordinating Body was opened in a building in the centre of Presevo that formerly housed the Municipal Court, which will enable the citizens of Presevo to resolve their day to day problems faster.
