Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic met in Brussels today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Belgium Sophie Wilmes and President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belgian Federal Parliament Eliane Tillieux.

After the meeting, Selakovic stated that this first bilateral visit to Belgium has a special meaning given the fact that this year our two countries mark 135 years of establishing diplomatic relations.

Selakovic said that he and Minister Wilmes discussed overall relations between Serbia and Belgium and agreed the continuation of communication on the issue of European integration of Serbia.

This was an opportunity for us to inform Minister Wilmes about what Serbia does to fulfil the criteria and conditions on our European path, but also to ask her for more understanding and better appreciation of the results that we achieve in that process, Minister Selakovic underlined.

He underlined that this is the first visit of the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Belgium in eight years and added that he was promised by Wilmes that she would visit Serbia in the coming period.

After the meeting, Selakovic and Wilmes signed the Memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the two ministries.

Selakovic added that he also had a very successful and productive meeting with President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belgian Federal Parliament Eliane Tillieux, with whom he discussed relations and cooperation between the two states and spoke about the European path of Serbia.
