Minister of Justice in a caretaker capacity Nenad Vujić stated at the plenary session of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi that intensive work had been carried out in the previous period on a comprehensive reform of Serbia’s criminal legislation, with the aim of establishing a more efficient, fairer and more modern system.

Presenting Serbia’s activities, Vujić explained that, in this context, significant amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure have been prepared, together with a new Law on Juvenile Offenders and the Protection of Juveniles in Criminal Proceedings, as well as amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence.
He said that these amendments form part of a broader process of alignment with international standards, including the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime and relevant European instruments.
The Minister stressed that particular attention had been paid to strengthening the system for the temporary and permanent confiscation of proceeds derived from criminal offences.
