Minister of Foreign Affairs in a caretaker capacity Marko Đurić stated today in Pržno, Montenegro, following the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, that stability and a forward-looking approach are key for Serbia and the region.
Đurić emphasised that Serbia is committed to regional cooperation and simultaneously acts as a driver of the region’s economic development given its 3.8% growth rate last year compared to 0.3% in the eurozone.
According to him, the country can thus make a significant contribution to Europe’s development, while its central position in the Balkans implies that there can be no European future for the region without a European future for Serbia.
Speaking about European integration, the Minister stated that, in practical terms, the region needs a situation where citizens do not wait for hours at borders, goods move faster, and the issue of roaming charges across the region is resolved.
Đurić also said that representatives from Priština at the gathering attempted to divert attention from the situation of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija by bringing up the status of Albanians in Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac, underlining that such parallels cannot be drawn.
For quite some time, we have been witnessing a regression regarding the collective, political, economic and other rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, the latest example of which is the revocation of the mandates of Serb judges and prosecutors who had previously resigned but who, in agreement and coordination with Belgrade and the European Union, wished to return to their posts, he recalled.
