Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic attended today the start of works on the clean-up of an illegal landfill in the village of Obrez, in the Pecinci municipality, at which waste has been dumped for 40 years.

After visiting the landfill, Brnabic stated that environmental protection, together with the reform of the rule of law, is one of the two priorities of the Serbian government in the current mandate.
She added that the Ministry of Environmental Protection set aside RSD 75 million for co-financing the removal of illegal landfills.
Vujovic announced that the removal of 500 landfills in 43 cities and municipalities is planned this month. She added that there are around 3,500 landfills and dumps in Serbia and that the state will try to prevent the removed landfills from being opened again.
