Local self-governments to decide on introducing national minorities languages in schools

Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic said today that the ministry will let local self-governments make the decision on whether languages of national minorities will be taught in some schools, and that the government will support any decisions they make.
Speaking at a press conference held as part of the international meeting called "Education of national minorities in Serbia-Montenegro", Vuksanovic stated that he submitted a report at the beginning of the meeting on the ministry's concrete results in the education of minorities.
He said that the ministry did not turn down any request of national minorities and added that all problems can be solved, which has been confirmed in the past year.
The meeting was organised by Wilton Park Conferences, in cooperation with the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence and the Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport, and with the support of the foreign ministries of Great Britain and Norway.
Apart from Minister Vuksanovic, the meeting will be attended by Serbia-Montenegrin Minister of Human and Minority Rights Rasim Ljajic, Head of the OSCE mission Maurizio Massari, Presevo Mayor Riza Halimi and Secretary-General of the Serbian National Minorities Council Petar Ladjevic.
