The Serbian parliament adopted today amendments to the Law on pension and disability insurance, which envisages that pension indexation will be performed twice a year, and that the average pension will not be less than 60 percent of the average salary in Serbia in the period of three years.
The mandatory retirement age will be raised in 2008 and not in 2006, as anticipated at first.
The law was supported by 127 deputies, 74 voted against and 32 out of 233 deputies who were present did not vote.
The Serbian parliament also adopted today by a majority vote the Penal Code. Serbia will, for the first time since 1860, receive a Penal Code that envisages a complete criminal law laying out all the most serious criminal offences.
The law was supported by 201 deputies, while 20 deputies did not vote.
The Penal Code, which is in line with all international human rights conventions and with EU standards, will come into force on January 1, 2006.
