Chairman of the Serbian parliament’s Committee for European Integrations Ksenija Milivojevic pointed out that the passing of a new Serbian constitution is a pre-requisite for signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), which was clearly stated at the last advanced standing dialogue meeting with the European Commission.
Milivojevic stated in the talks of the Committee for European Integrations members with journalists, organised by the Serbian EU Integration Office, that the essential obstacle in the passing of a new constitution is the lack of political consensus, which could slow down the process of European integrations and have a negative effect on its continuity.
She stressed the important role of the parliament in Serbia’s EU accession and said that the Serbian parliament is still a long way from any western European parliament, which is why a lot of work must be done on its reform.
Chairman of the Serbian parliament’s Committee for Foreign Affairs Gordana Comic pointed out that European integrations are internal matters of a country, since it implies the change of society itself.
European Integrations Committee Member Vojkan Tomic announced the forming of a National Assembly’s parliamentary office for European integrations, which will educate and inform MPs on harmonisation and passing of laws in accordance with EU legislation, as well as inform the public on the parliament’s role in the integration process.
