Building and strengthening institutions in Serbia is important for improving the functioning of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro, said Kostunica, stressing that the government’s priorities include institutional consolidation, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, economic revival and international cooperation.
A political resolution to problems in Kosovo-Metohija must be found in order to prevent violence, secure conditions for the return of displaced persons and ensure safety for Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province, the Prime Minister said. He added that the government has prepared a plan which calls for decentralisation in order to secure territorial and political autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija Serbs and other non-Albanians.
Participants in the meeting welcomed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and called for improving and expanding ties in all aspects of cooperation.
