During her visit to BioSense Institute in Novi Sad, Brnabic pointed to the importance of this institution, because it can make a big step forward in the digitisation of agriculture.
According to the Prime Minister, the significance of BioSense Institute, which is a symbol of the new direction of Serbia's development, is even greater because it connects two strategically important sectors of Serbia – agriculture, and information and communication technologies.
She expressed her gratitude to partners from the European Union who, financially, together with the Serbian government, supported the project of BioSense Institute, "Antares".
The “Antares” project, as she explained, aims to develop BioSense Institute into a European excellence centre for advanced technologies in the field of sustainable agriculture and food safety.
According to her, the EU and the Government of Serbia have allocated €14 million, which is the largest single grant for science in Serbia.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is extremely important that BioSense will get a new building, when it will represent the centre of excellence in Serbia and the region physically too.
Coordinator of “Antares” project Vesna Bengin said that BioSense, with the help of the Serbian government, invested €1.2 million in new, state-of-the-art equipment for large data and artificial intelligence, while it allocated €600,000 from its own funds.
Bengin said that BioSense will invest another €16.5 million next year, which it obtained through victories in international competitions.
Mayor of Novi Sad Milos Vucevic emphasised that BioSense managed to do what seemed abstract a few years ago - to digitise agriculture.
