The Serbian parliament adopted today by a majority vote the Law on ratification of the textile agreement with the European Union (EU), which allows for the duty free export of Serbian textiles and textile goods to the EU.

Addressing the members of parliament, Serbian Minister of International Economic Relations Milan Parivodic said that this agreement is very important for Serbia's economy since the textile industry employs 90,000 people.
Parivodic said that the agreement could come into effect on July 1 at the earliest and on August 1 at the latest. He went on to say that Serbia must compete on the world market with ready-made clothes, good fashion and branded items.
The Minister said that this agreement will significantly improve Serbia's economy and help to reduce the high unemployment rate.
