Vucic said at the official presidential inauguration held at the Palace of Serbia in the presence of numerous guests from Serbia and abroad that our country wants to build bridges of friendship, but that it cannot do it alone, no matter how strong it might be.
In Serbia we have regulated our public finances, we have a surplus in the budget, but the poor in our country are still poor and we will have to do more so that ordinary people are much more satisfied.
The President of Serbia said that we cannot make such progress or any progress if we do not provide peace and stability, underlining that these are the most important things for all of us.
He warned that we depend on each other so much that if whoever loses ground, we will all fall.
We in Serbia are aware of that and we know that we need to share with our neighbours the pillars with which the common future is supported, and we also know that we no longer have anything to fight about, Vucic said.
He added that Serbia does not want bad relations with great forces either and stressed that we are on the European path by our own decision and because we want to belong to the society of well-regulated countries, build good relations with the Western world after decades of problems, including the United States.
Also, Vucic said, we are proud of the fact that Russia is not only our traditional friend, but also a country with which we are strengthening bilateral relations and for which we express a genuine friendship even when others in the world have different opinions.
The President of the Republic added that we opened for Serbia new opportunities for creating excellent relations with China, but also with many other countries that we have almost forgotten in the past thirty years.
At the same time, he said that we have changed and are ready to change again, with every new day, because we dare and can make a step forward that will take us from mythology to the future, and from misfortune to good fortune.
The Serbia to which you have come today has ceased to hope for death and begun to want life, Vucic said, and added that we are a generation that realized that there is no problem, but a search for a solution, a generation that has nothing left than to stop fighting and to begin to learn to work.
The Serbia in which you are greeted with open arms and open hearts does not dream any longer of enemies, but creates, in reality, friendships, and we, who are a product of wars, want one thing more than anything - peace, he repeated.
The formal reception was attended by leaders and officials from the countries of the region, Europe and the world, including representatives of the United States, the Russian Federation, China and international organisations.
A programme for over 5,000 guests was held in all parts of the Palace of Serbia.
Six salons and two foyers have been redecorated for this occasion, each representing a part of Serbia – from southern, eastern, central and western Serbia to Vojvodina, Kosovo-Metohija, Raska and Belgrade.
A rich cultural and artistic programme was held, featuring a children’s choir of Serbia under the baton of Darinka Matic-Marovic, ensemble "Vrelo", cultural and artistic society "Kolo", dancing troupe "Una Saga Serbica" and the trumpet orchestra of Dejan Petrovic.
