Ana Brnabic nominated for prime minister

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that he entrusted the mandate for forming the new government of the Republic of Serbia to Ana Brnabic, who has so far served as Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government.

Vucic said at a press conference that the decision on the prime minister nominee was brought based on Article 112, paragraph 1, item 127 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, having heard the views of representatives of election lists.
The President explained that the decision was not easy to make, but that he did it in accordance with the interests of the Republic of Serbia and proclaimed goals that work and energy yield good results for the citizens of Serbia.
He pointed out that the future prime minister must ensure further strengthening of the reputation of the country and the continuation of the ongoing reforms, and added that Ana Brnabic informed him she has the majority of MPs in the Serbian parliament for the new government.
Ana Brnabic has the professional and personal qualities, said Vucic and expressed his belief that she will show respect to the parties that are expected to support her and that she will work for the betterment of our country.
The President pointed out that it is extremely important to strengthen Serbia's reputation in the international community, both in the West and the East, in relations with the EU Russia, China, United States, Arab and other countries.
Serbia must improve its image. We no longer have to prove our independence and sovereignty to anyone, but Serbia deserves to be better positioned, and its citizens should be even more proud, he underlined.
Also, he added that ahead of Serbia is further strengthening of fiscal stability, preservation of full discipline in spending money, and that citizens can now feel the results achieved so far.
The President pointed out that the future prime minister must contribute to the further reduction of unemployment and the growth of the employment rate, and recalled that five years ago the unemployment rate stood at 25.9%, and that today it is between 13.5% and 15%.
The announcement of the name of the new prime minister will be followed by the procedure of electing a new government and prime minister in the Serbian parliament, where the new prime minister, at a special session, present her keynote speech with goals and the programme of the government.
