Serbia opened today two new chapters in the accession negotiations, chapters 20 and 26, at the Fifth Intergovernmental Conference EU-Serbia, the first one during Maltese presidency of the European Union.
In the continuation of the accession process, Serbia opened Chapter 26 which deals with education, training, youth and culture, and Chapter 20 which deals with entrepreneurship and industrial policy.
At the same meeting, Chapter 26 was immediately closed temporarily, since in the field of education and culture there are no common EU criteria necessary for harmonisation and therefore no criteria for closing the chapter.
Serbia has so far opened eight chapters in negotiations with the EU and temporarily closed two out of a total of 35 negotiation chapters.
The Serbian delegation at today’s Intergovernmental conference in Brussels is led by Minister without portfolio responsible for European integration Jadranka Joksimovic.
On behalf of the European Commission the meeting was attended by Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and the host of the meeting on behalf of the Council of the EU was Maltese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Louis Grech.
