Speaking to the press as part of a campaign of the Serbian government's EU Integration Office and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Markovic said that in Serbia there is no serious political force or political party that is opposing the country's integration into the EU, but that there are people who question it and they should be made aware of the advantages of joining the union of European nations.
The road to the EU is voluntary and the speed of the accession depends on the country itself, Markovic noted. A shortcut in that process could be through cooperation with countries in the region and the ability to learn from their experiences, Markovic said.
The parliament Speaker said that all institutions must improve their efficiency, including the parliament, and that a larger portion of the parliament's work should be transferred to committees.
To speed up the integration process, the media and other institutions should raise citizens' awareness of the benefits of accession to the EU, Markovic pointed out.
Secretary of the EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic said that after obtaining the positive assessment of the feasibility study, the next step is the formation of negotiating groups that will take part in the negotiations on the conclusion of the agreement on stabilisation and association.
According to Miscevic, it is very important that the main negotiator and negotiating groups remain the same regardless of the change of governments and their politics because the process of EU accession is one that must go on regardless of these changes.
