The topic was implementation of an ongoing programme of cooperation between the EBRD and Serbia, which provides for supporting the financial sector and public enterprises restructuring processes and improving the business environment in Serbia.
The EBRD President said that the financial institution will provide both financial and advisory support in the corporate restructuring of EPS, Srbijagas and other public enterprises.
Also, the EBRD will get actively involved in resolving the non-performing loans issues, based on a strategy passed by the Serbian government, the realisation of which was entrusted to the National Bank of Serbia and the Ministry of Finance.
We expect Serbia to continue being fully committed to the reforms it has started, said Chakrabarti, adding that the EBRD would support the investment momentum that had got going in Serbia and voicing confidence that foreign investors would be able to recognise that.
World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Kiril Mulller said that Serbia now has access to the real possibilities of development, which helps it to accurately define the priorities in continuing fiscal adjustment, strengthening the capacity and efficiency.
During the bilateral meeting with Vujovic, he said that the government of Serbia showed the good results and that it is now important not to interrupt them.
Speaking on the continuation of the successful cooperation with the World Bank, Vujovic said that the improvement of health, education and the pension system are three most important areas that need to be addressed and discussed during future meetings.
Muller added that Serbia, as a result of a series of good macroeconomic indicators, Serbia is at this point the leading economy of the Western Balkans.
