Vucic proposes Zoran Djordjevic as defence minister to MPs

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has proposed today at the Serbian parliament Zoran Djordjevic as the new defence minister and stressed that such a proposal guarantees the stability of the defence system.

Elaborating his proposal, Vucic said that the current State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic is a good choice, because he is diligent, dedicated and a team player.

According to Vucic, Djordjevic is doing his job well in the system of the Ministry of Defence, he has completed the master of Economics, he is a member of MENSA, he speaks English and Russian and is completing the School of National Defence.

I think he has a good relationship with everyone in the army, that he well understands the needs, and especially budgeting, revenues and expenditures, and that no one so far has had any significant objections to his work, Vucic said.

He also pointed out that the proposal for the new defence minister has been filed in accordance with the legal provisions.

The Prime Minister pointed out that, regardless of calling the parliamentary elections soon, it is important for the Serbian government that the defence system functions well until May, when the new government will be appointed, given that Serbia is in a complicated situation because of the migrant crisis, where a defence minister has a specific position.

He pointed out that the defence system is faced with difficulties, but that there are fewer problems than before, and that everyone is acting responsibly and understands the needs of Serbia.

Also, Vucic said that the minister of defence has a specific position in relation to all the other ministers, because in addition to his ministry, he is also responsible to the Army of Serbia and the parliament and the government, as well as to the President of the Republic.

The Prime Minister noted that Serbia needs to have the minister of defence, since due to the migrant crisis it is not yet known whether it will be necessary to include the Army of Serbia in this difficult and responsible job.

It is important to go through this difficult period with no turbulences, especially since we do not know what will happen at the EU summit dedicated to the migrant crisis in early March, when a final decision regarding the migrant crisis will be made, Vucic explained.
