Minister of Economy Zeljko Sertic spoke today with representatives of the IMF Mission about the course of privatisation to date, the fate of 17 strategic companies whose deadline for privatisation has been extended, the work of public enterprises, as well as about the laws that are in preparation, especially the law on investments.
Sertic informed Chief of the IMF Mission James Roaf about the activities and efforts of the Ministry of Economy aimed at completing the privatisation, and underlined that there will be no more extensions of privatisation deadlines.
IMF representatives were told that the state no longer finances public companies and that they pay their own bills for electricity, gas, taxes and the like.
The results of this were immediately seen in the budget revenues, the Minister underlined.
IMF representatives expressed a particular interest in improving business climate in Serbia, and in this respect pointed to the need for the earliest possible adoption of the law on investments.
Sertic confirmed that adoption of this law can be expected in the next few weeks, and announced a change in regulations which will improve the economic environment.
In addition to the law on investments, we are preparing a set of laws that will improve the business environment, such as the law on consensual financial restructuring, changes in the law on the Agency for licensing bankruptcy administrators, the new bankruptcy law and the law on temporary rights restrictions, in order to create a good environment for business activities of both domestic and foreign investors, the Minister of Economy concluded.
