Resolution on Srebrenica not adopted

The United Nations Security Council did not adopt the draft resolution on Srebrenica on Wednesday because Russia, as one of the five UNSC permanent members, vetoed the document.

Representatives of ten countries backed the resolution, four countries abstained from voting and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin voted against the draft resolution.
In addition to China, Nigeria, Angola and Venezuela abstained from voting, while the document got the support of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Lithuania, New Zealand, Chile, Malaysia, Jordan and Chad.
The session opened with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of Srebrenica, on a proposal of Churkin.
