At a session of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Serbian Parliament, at which he submitted a report on the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2014, Dacic recalled that four ambassadors were appointed in the last eight to nine months.
He explained that the aim of the Ministry is to work on the reform of diplomacy and its further professionalisation, and a major prerequisite for this is a new law on foreign affairs.
He added that the government is also working is on the amendments to the Decree on diplomatic passports, which will specifically identify persons who can get this type of passport.
According to Dacic, our country will have a tough fight soon due to the intention of Kosovo-Metohija to join some international organisations, given that it is expected that the Kosovo authorities will apply for membership in the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
It is very important that Serbia has an active approach to this problem and do as much as it can to prevent it, Dacic said and explained that Serbia does not dispute the possibility, right and need of Pristina representatives to participate in various regional meetings, but it does deny their membership because that would mean the prejudging of the status.
He pointed out that during the last year the Ministry continued efforts to preserve territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country and prevent further recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
To that end, Serbia needs to pay attention to traditionally friendly countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia in the coming period, which are being pressed to recognise the independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
