Serbia ready to open chapters 23, 24

Head of the Serbian team for negotiations on EU accession Tanja Miscevic stated today that Serbia has political will and technical preparedness to start negotiations on chapters 23 and 24 that deal with the rule of law, reform of the judiciary and fundamental rights.

After the session of the Working group of the National Committee on the EU that monitors accession negotiations on Chapter 24 – justice, freedom and safety, Miscevic said that it would be good if chapters 23 and 24 were opened in the first half of this year.
She underlined that these chapters are of fundamental importance not only for the state, but for Serbia’s citizens as well.
According to Miscevic, comments on the second version of the Action plan for chapter 24 are expected from Brussels over the next few days.
These are 10 smaller action plans and they are not examined by only one directorate, but must be approved by different directorates, she explained, and reiterated that she expects positive comments.
