Chinese companies interested in cooperating with Serbia in energy projects

Minister of Construction and Energy Aleksandar Antic spoke yesterday with the newly-appointed Ambassador of China to Serbia Li Manchang about improvement of bilateral cooperation between Serbia and China.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Construction and Energy, the two officials discussed projects which Serbia does in partnership with China through the mechanism of cooperation of China with the countries of central and eastern Europe (CIEZ), such as revitalisation of the thermal power plant ''Kostolac'' and construction of two sections of the Belgrade-Cacak motorway.
Antic underlined that one of the most important projects for Serbia in the field of energy is precisely the construction of block B3 in the “Kostolac” and that there is a very great interest of Chinese companies in cooperation with Serbia in energy projects.
He noted that the May flooding severely damaged Serbia’s energy system, and new energy balances and strategies for new power production capacities are currently being made.
Manchang informed Antic as national coordinator of Serbia for the mechanism China – CIEZ about the details of holding the second meeting of local leaders titled ''Cooperation at local level – important impetus of cooperation of China – CIEZ'', to be held in Prague on 28-29 August in the organisation of the China-CIEZ secretariat and the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
The Chinese Ambassador underlined that traditionally friendly relations between China and Serbia are a basis for good economic cooperation between the two countries.
He added that China has technical abilities to help Serbia and that mutual political conditions are such that the two countries can cooperate without any obstacles, in a friendly spirit and to the benefit of both sides, it is added in the statement.
