The UN Secretary-General expressed his sorrow over the catastrophic floods that hit Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
Nikolic noted that the unprecedented floods that hit Serbia caused great misfortune, but have also shown a great responsibility of the Serbian government and the amazing solidarity and commitment of citizens.
Unfortunately, human sacrifices are an irreparable loss and we feel deep sorrow and sympathise with the families. The reconstruction of the country is now ahead of us and that is where I ask for your help, the Serbian President said.
After the meeting, Nikolic said in a statement to Radio Television of Serbia from New York that he expects that an international donors' conference will be organised very soon in which foreign countries would express solidarity with the Balkan countries affected by the floods.
He confirmed that Ban Ki-moon accepted his invitation to participate in the work of that conference, which is expected to be organised by France.
