Vucic entrusted mandate to form new government

President Tomislav Nikolic announced today that he entrusted the mandate for the forming of the new government of Serbia to President of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and current First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

Nikolic said at a joint press conference held at the Serbian presidency that he and Vucic reached an agreement on close cooperation in the decision-making, adding that the decisions will not be popular.

I sincerely congratulate Vucic on the result he has achieved, and I decided to inform the parliament that I have entrusted Vucic with the mandate, Nikolic said.

Vucic said that in the next three or four years, which will the term of the new government of Serbia, he will create a healthy and decent country.

I promise to work diligently and honestly and make good decisions for our Serbia, Vucic said .

Noting that this government will be set up in the shortest possible time so far, he expressed his gratitude to President Nikolic for the entrusted mandate.

Nikolic made the decision after consultations with SNS-led coalition as well as with representatives of all parliamentary parties.

The SNS list won 158 of 250 madates in the parliament. Apart from the SNS, the coalition also includes the Social Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS), New Serbia (NS), Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) and the Movement of Socialists (PS).
