Speaking at the session whose first item on the agenda was open to the media, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated that the government of Serbia cannot accept the proposed principles that were orally presented to Belgrade’s negotiating team because they do not guarantee full safety, survival and the protection of human rights of the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.
Dacic underlined that such an agreement is not applicable, that it would not lead to a final and sustainable solution and to overcoming the current situation in the province.
The government at the same time confirmed the commitment to reach a lasting solution through peaceful means, through dialogue, that will be a sound basis for building lasting peace.
The Prime Minister, who read to Cabinet members the proposed conclusions, underlined that the Serbian government with its participation in dialogue so far and the willingness to reach a compromise demonstrated a sincere commitment to achieving an overall agreement.
All present members of the Cabinet voted for the Conclusion about the need for the continuation of dialogue with representatives of the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina with the mediation of the EU.
The Serbian government authorised Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Mrkic and Secretary General of the government Veljko Odalovic to inform the EU on Belgrade’s decision today.
Mrkic and Odalovic formally submitted the conclusion to Head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade Vincent Degert, who will forward it to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
