Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with Director of the Directorate-General of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe (CoE) Marc Scheuer and the newly appointed Special Representative of the CoE Secretary General for Serbia-Montenegro Stefano Valenti.
Kostunica stressed that the Serbian government is committed to the rule of law and he recalled that the Serbian parliament has enacted more than 80 bills introduced by the government in the past year. He added that all these laws are in line with EU regulations.
Scheuer said that Serbia-Montenegro plays a significant part in regional stability and he stressed that the state union has taken an active part in resolving regional and European problems such as human trafficking, smuggling, and cross-border crime.
The talks also covered the difficult position of Serbs living in Kosovo-Metohija. Kostunica reiterated that Serbs in the province are deprived of basic human rights and called for additional institutional guarantees for Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija.
