Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community in Serbia Isak Asiel about the position of the Jewish community in Serbia, as well as the importance of fostering interfaith dialogue and a culture of remembrance.

Macut and Asiel pointed out the importance of preserving traditionally good relations between state authorities and the Jewish community, based on mutual respect, understanding and shared values, assessing that the Jewish community makes a significant contribution to the social and cultural life of Serbia.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Serbia remains committed to protecting the rights of all religious and national communities, as well as preserving cultural and historical heritage.
The interlocutors particularly pointed out the importance of educating young people about the suffering of the Jewish people during World War II and preserving historical memory as an important foundation for building a society based on tolerance and mutual respect.
