Addressing a conference “Energy paths in the region and use of renewable sources”, Mihajlovic voiced her expectation that all necessary by-laws regarding this law will be adopted within 30 days.
As for priorities in the legislative framework, we plan to adopt by-laws regarding the Law on energy, as well as a strategy of Serbia’s energy development by 2030, the Minister said.
She said that her Ministry’s priorities also include improvement of energy efficiency, construction of new infrastructure facilities in electrical energy and gas and oil industries, as well as changes in the management principles in public enterprises.
The Minister observed that the prices of electricity and gas in Serbia are low, but noted that increase in prices cannot be discussed until the so-called social cards are introduced, most likely in the first quarter of 2013.
Until we introduce social cards in Serbia, the prices of electricity and gas must not go up because we have to take care of our citizens, Mihajlovic remarked, stressing that the Serbian Electric Power Industry and the Serbian gas industry Srbijagas cannot be social institutions, but stable and profitable companies.
Mihajlovic added that the preparation of social cards has been under way for some time now and that several ministries are involved in the process.
