Kostunica noted the importance of EBRD’s annual meeting, scheduled to take place in May this year in Belgrade, as a gathering point for heads of states and prime ministers from the region, representatives of central banks as well as a large number of investors.
The Prime Minister said that during the past year, the government has been engaged in building the judicial framework, noting that the parliament adopted over 80 laws proposed by the government. He recalled that the government reached an agreement with the London Club of creditors on debt write-off and rescheduling, and that debt and claim problems with the Russian Federation and the debtor-creditor relations between Zastava Group and Italian Fiat Auto were solved.
Lemierre said that the EBRD fully supports the economic reforms conducted by the Serbian government, noting that the bank wants to expand its investment in the economic development of Serbia-Montenegro.
He also pointed to the importance of EBRD’s annual meeting taking place in Belgrade as Serbia-Montenegro and the Balkan region will be the focus of the conference. It will also be a good opportunity for reaching agreements relative to further investment, he said.
