Dinkic meets with IMF, World Bank representatives

Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic today in Switzerland met with officials of the IMF and the World Bank to whom he presented a fiscal consolidation programme prepared by the Serbian government.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy states that the goal of this programme is to make savings in the budget to the amount of around €1 billion in 2013.

Dinkic asked for support to the implementation of the programme, adding that he hopes the talks with the IMF will soon begin and that a new agreement will be reached enabling Serbia to activate favourable loans with the World Bank.

During a one-day visit to Montreux, Dinkic met with the IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director David Lipton, World Bank First Deputy Director General Phillip Le Roux, Swiss President Eveline Widmer Schlumpf, Swiss Minister of Finance Johann Schneider-Ammann and Governor of the Polish Central Bank Marek Belka.

Dinkic and the Swiss finance minister reached agreement on activities aimed towards the improvement of their bilateral economic cooperation, as well as assistance to the Serbian Tax Administration in its efforts to modernise its mode of operation.

Bearing in mind that Switzerland has one of the best organised tax administrations in Europe, they agreed on a visit of representatives from the Serbian Tax Administration to Switzerland, as well as to transfer the successful Swiss electronic operating system to Serbia, the statement adds.
