Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Antonione and said that Italy has been one of Serbia-Montenegro’s most important partners in their consideration of our country’s EU integration.
Antonione said that Serbia-Montenegro is a strategic partner for Italy, and expressed his support to Serbia-Montenegro on its path to the EU. He also said that Serbia-Montenegro is important for the regional stability.
Kostunica stressed that Serbia-Montenegro is only at the stage of a positive feasibility study, which is an important precondition for its EU integration.
Speaking on Kosovo-Metohija, Kostunica pointed to the difficult position of the Serb community in the province and the lack of respect for their basic human rights.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Italian soldiers in KFOR for protection of the Pec Patriarchate and the monasteries in Kosovo-Metohija.
Antonione said that the position of the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija is very difficult and pledged an implementation of decentralisation in the province as well as providing conditions for return of all those who have been expelled. He underlined that it is not time for hasty decisions, noting that standards need to be met first.
