Kostunica said at the meeting, which was also attended by Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia-Montenegro Maurizio Massari, that it is hard to imagine any talks on Kosovo-Metohija’s status in a situation where there is no respect for basic human rights, those being security, the freedom of movement, and conditions for the return of internally displaced persons. Kostunica also pointed to the problems facing the Serb villages without electricity.
Rupel stressed that problems in Kosovo-Metohija cannot b resolved without the participation of Belgrade and he called for a dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina so as to address the problems of the Serb community more efficiently. It is not possible to achieve progress in Kosovo-Metohija without a full implementation of the standards, said Rupel, while stressing that respect of human rights must take top priority.
Kostunica also called for additional institutional guarantees to Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province, which would allow for the return of displaced Serbs and other non-Albanians.
Rupel said that the OSCE is trying to help resolve the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and he stressed that European integration is in the future of this region. In this sense, Slovenia supports Serbia-Montenegro on its road to EU integration, said Rupel.
