Naumov said that the restructuring of Serbia’s energy sector, which began in 2001, will be finished by the end of the year, and that the number of employees at the state power utility EPS will be reduced by 20,000 - but he stressed that nobody will be left without job. According to Naumov state oil company NIS is in a similar situation.
He said that the reform in this sector is being carried out gradually and in cooperation with trade unions so that there will be no social unrest.
Naumov noted that Serbia’s electricity industry is dominant in the Balkans and he recalled that Serbia, as a member of the Athens process, will soon become a member of the Southeast European Energy Community.
According to him, an agreement on the creation of a common market, the third largest in the world, will be signed at a ministerial conference in Athens in June.
