In a telephone interview with Ashton, Dacic said that there is broad support of voters and MPs for that, which is why setting the date for the beginning of negotiations for the accession into the EU would be a confirmation of Serbia’s efforts to date.
The Prime Minister informed Ashton that so far he has spoken with a large number of international and regional leaders and that he told everyone that Serbia will continue to be a reliable partner and a pillar of peace and stability in the region.
He highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and expressed his commitment as the prime minister of the new government to the establishment of even closer ties and better cooperation with countries in the region.
Dacic expressed firm intention of the Serbian government to implement the agreements reached so far in the dialogue and to continue the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina at the political level in order to achieve practical and sustainable solutions that lead to the normalisation of life of ordinary people living in Kosovo-Metohija, both Serbs and Albanians.
Ashton welcomed the formation of the new Serbian government and congratulated the newly elected prime minister, expressing her wish to continue the good cooperation.
At the same time, she expressed her personal commitment and dedication to a better European future for the people of Serbia.
She emphasised that the government of Serbia is ahead of difficult tasks and that the EU stands ready to support Serbia in resolving those tasks.
Ashton stressed the importance of regional cooperation and the necessity of continuing dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina as soon as possible, with the support and participation of the European Union.
They agreed that a meeting of EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Serbian Prime Minister is held after the summer break in order to continue the cooperation and agreement on the next important step on Serbia's path towards the EU, according to a statement by the Serbian government.
