Serbia's Nature Protection Programme for 2026-2031 adopted

The Serbian government adopted today the Nature Protection Programme of Serbia for the period 2026-2031, as well as several decrees and decisions.

The Nature Protection Programme of Serbia for the period 2026-2031 was adopted in order to establish an efficient nature protection system, halt biodiversity loss, and preserve and restore ecosystems.

The objectives of this programme are, among other things, to improve the nature protection system and biodiversity conservation, a more efficient system of protection and management of species, habitat types, protected areas and the ecological network, reduce negative impacts on biodiversity, and improve the institutional and legislative framework.

The programme is aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the objectives of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

Government members also adopted the Decree amending the Decree establishing the programme for the allocation of grants for the purchase of a rural house with a garden in the territory of the Republic of Serbia for 2026, in order to continue the implementation of this programme, which is of great interest to citizens.

This programme has been successfully implemented for six years, and so far more than 17,500 people have moved into 4,273 houses with a garden in 922 villages.

The Government also adopted the Decision to open an Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which will contribute to the further strengthening of friendly relations and overall bilateral cooperation.
