Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic today called upon EULEX to urgently investigate the fire at Zilivode in Kosovo-Metohija, where the terrain was being searched for the remains of kidnapped Serbs, in order to denounce the speculations that the fire was not accidental.
Bogdanovic told Beta news agency that there are indications that the fire was raised to destroy the evidence of people who were killed and their bodies thrown down a pit, reiterating that this is why the truth as to the cause of the fire must be uncovered as soon as possible.
This is necessary in order to prevent a rise of suspicions and misconceptions, he said, adding that EULEX must investigate whether the fire was planted, as the families of the missing are claiming.
The Minister noted that the fire must be urgently put out and search of the terrain continued in order to determine whether there are indeed remains of killed or kidnapped persons on this location.
The search of the Zilivode location was launched to determine whether the remains of 26 missing Serbs are indeed buried there. After two years of excavations the team reached a depth of 25 metres and the investigation was supposed to end in 10–15 days.
The fire at the former coal pit broke out on 14 July and the operations to put it out commences yesterday.
