Bogdanovic told Zvecan-based television Most that this is necessary in order to resolve this situation properly, adding that despite yesterday’s announcements that the Kosovo police would protect and escort Serbs during their visit to Gazimestan and Gracanica, Serbs were sent back upon arriving at Merdare and then attacked.
This way no positive message was sent to the Serbian people in the province or to those from central Serbia who wanted to visit it on this important day.
Such acts by the Kosovo police have created additional tension, he warned, adding that this adds to further destabilisation and prevents a normal and safe co-life of Serbs and Albanians.
It is a duty of Kosovo police officers to perform their tasks conscientiously and efficiently and to preserve the lives of all citizens, as well as ensure their safety, he added.
Bogdanovic voiced his hope that the investigation will uncover what really happened at Merdare and why firearms were used.
He noted that such actions, regardless of who initiates them, must be condemned and that everyone must make their contribution to the preservation of peace and stability in the province and the entire Western Balkans.
