Lesak, 15 June 2012 –Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic expressed his hope today that EULEX will respect the agreement on license plates that was reached in Brussels and underlined that it is well-known that this agreement does not apply to the north of Kosovo, regardless of the fact that some people are trying to abuse Paragraph 7 of that document.
Bogdanovic said in Lesak that Serbia was given an oral guarantee from the European mediator in talks between Belgrade and Pristina Robert Cooper that due to the peculiarity of the situation in the north of Kosovo, the licence plates KS or RKS will not be used until further notice.
It is obvious that due to different interpretations, the technical dialogue in some areas has come to the stage where there are problems and where some things need to be clarified with the relevant officials and Pristina in order to see what should be done next, Bogdanovic noticed.
The Minister said he expects a rapid formation of the new government, after which a political dialogue on resolving the status of northern Kosovo will start for sure because tensions caused by the current situation are unacceptable.
Today's protest drive to Jarinje and Brnjak showed dissatisfaction of citizens from the north of Kosovo who do not want to accept Kosovo license plates and Kosovo documents, Bogdanovic said.
He underlined that Serbia requests from EULEX to be status- neutral and that this mission must accept the will of the people and the agreement reached in Brussels, without taking anyone’s side.
The Minister reiterated that Belgrade authorities will do everything to secure lasting peace and tolerance in Kosovo-Metohija in order to reduce tensions that exist in the southern Serbian province, and which are also reflected on the Serbian community living south of the Ibar River.
Today Bogdanovic opened a new gymnasium in town of Lesak in Leposavic municipality in northern Kosovo-Metohija.
He specified that RSD 35 million was invested in the construction of the gymnasium in the “Stana Bacanin” elementary school.
Similar facilities were opened in the previous four years in other parts of Kosovo-Metohija.
