Speaking at a roundtable discussion “Foreign Direct Investment in Serbia 2001–2011”, Ciric said that over the last ten years €17 billion in FDI was invested in Serbia, with the net amount of investments standing at €15.1 billion.
The Minister recalled that in the period 2001–2008, the largest portion of money came from privatisation procedures and was used to finance public spending, not development projects.
From 2008 onwards, investments were mostly directed towards export-oriented production, the goal of which is economic growth and the creation of new jobs.
Serbia has done a lot to improve its investment climate, he stressed, adding that there is still much to do in this sense, such as simplifying procedures and reducing income tax.
A publication themed “Foreign Direct Investment in Serbia 2001–2011” was presented at the roundtable, detailing foreign investments in Serbia per sectors, fields and biggest Serbian companies and presenting the legal framework for investments.
