Belgrade, 8 Feb 2012 –The Serbian government has decided this evening, in order to protect the country’s power system, to limit supply of electricity to certain institutions and companies that are large consumers, but are not vital for daily functioning.
Electricity will not be cut off to the citizens and organisations that provide vital services, i.e. power plants, hospitals, water supply, food factories and similar.
Local self-governments have been ordered to turn off the decorative and advertising lighting.
The government made this decision after receiving a report from the public electric power industry Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), which states that, despite all the efforts that are being made, and due to extremely bad weather conditions, the electric power situation in Serbia is still very difficult.
