Stefanovic said last night in a statement to the Tanjug news agency that the agreement will facilitate the mutual recognition of security by the two sides without prejudicing the status of Kosovo.
The agreement will allow the vehicles registered in central Serbia to be used in the territory of Kosovo without paying additional fees for insurance. The same will apply for users of KS (Kosovo) registration plates in central Serbia, Stefanovic said, noting that the mechanism of compensation for damages in the event of accidents will be established too.
He pointed out that the agreement is being prepared under the mediation of the EU, noting that the Serbian Insurance Companies Association is already ready to sign it.
Until the agreement is signed, the authorities in Serbia will try to provide benefits for citizens of Serbia who use KS plates, Stefanovic said.
He also explained that Kosovo is not a member of the "green card" insurance system and therefore can independently determine the amount of insurance, while insurance companies in central Serbia apply the scale adopted at the international level which stands at a minimum price of about €100.
It is very important to promptly reach a technical agreement that will be status neutral and that will regulate this issue permanently, said Stefanovic.
