At a meeting on the free movement of people and goods between Kosovo and central Serbia in the context of regional cooperation, Stefanovic said that it is necessary to find a solution that will allow, first of all, safe and prosperous stay Serbian population in Kosovo-Metohija.
It is also necessary to come up with a solution that will enable the functioning of Serbia, its laws and the Constitution in that area, but in a way that creates additional problems, but solves the most burdening issues, Stefanovic said.
He pointed out that Serbia is committed to finding these solutions through dialogue with Pristina, but also otside the framework of that dialogue, adding that daily communication with the EU and all major EU countries continues.
He, however, stated that there is a serious problem when it comes to enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 regional representation of Pristina.
Our position is very clear here. We cannot renounce Resolution 1244, because that would mean implicit recognition of Kosovo as an independent state, Stefanovic said.
He expressed confidence that negotiations will continue to give positive results, if there is will of the international community to influence Pristina to abandon its maximalist demands related to Resolution 1244.
Stefanovic stressed that the continuation of European integration is a top state interest and that it is inconceivable to defend interests in Kosovo without the continuation of that process.
