Head of the Serbian negotiating team in dialogue with the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina Borislav Stefanovic said today that Serbia is ready to compromise, but will not accept the unilateral decisions on which the other party insists.
Stefanovic told Beta news agency that agreement is not possible if it contravenes the Serbian Constitution or UN Security Council Resolution 1244, as well as that the administrative line cannot be declared a border and administrative points – border crossings.
He affirmed that talks on administrative crossings and Pristina’s participation in regional gatherings will be resumed on 30 November, adding that the Serbian side will put forward adequate proposals, and that it is hopeful that agreement can be reached.
The main obstacle is that Pristina is adamant that the crossings and the administrative line be granted state character, which is utterly unacceptable for Belgrade.
Stefanovic observed that talks are not being led about Pristina’s membership in regional initiatives, but about the way it is presented at these gatherings.
Serbia’s stance is that Kosovo-Metohija cannot be presented at these gatherings in the same way as independent states, he added.
