Russia sends 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid for Serbs in Kosovo

Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic and Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Konuzin welcomed today at airport in Nis "Constantine the Great" a plane with a new shipment of humanitarian aid from Russia intended for Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.

Bogdanovic told reporters that the 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid consist of food and wood burning stoves and added that the aid will be distributed to Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija in next few days through the office of the Red Cross. The Minister recalled that this is not the first humanitarian aid of the Russian people and the state to the Serbs in Kosovo and that this form of cooperation has lasted for 12 years. He announced that Russia will soon send a new package of help in medical equipment and materials for health centres in Kosovo-Metohija where Serbs live.

Konuzin stated that Nis will be the seat of the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Centre and added that its formation takes place according to the plan which was harmonised in October this year during the visit of Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu to Serbia.

He said that the centre should start operating fully in March or April next year, noting that the idea of forming a humanitarian centre in Nis is spreading and that a large number of states are interested in cooperating with it.
