The participants in the talks discussed activities taken so far in the restructuring of the state power utility company EPS, further steps in the gasification of Serbia and the establishment of new institutions for the development of the energy market. The World Bank's delegation was particularly interested in further restructuring of EPS and the reaching of an economic price of electricity.
World Bank representatives expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in the energy sector, namely the adoption of the Law on energy last year, completion of the strategy for energy development to 2015, continuation of restructuring of public companies in the energy sector, preparation of a number of decrees and the nomination of the members for the Energy Agency council.
Minister Naumov launched an initiative for the development of programmes in the field of environmental protection, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources and pointed to the need of receiving further assistance in this field.
Minister Naumov presented to World Bank representatives the problem of energy supply for the Serbian population in Kosovo-Metohija. As one suggestion for a long-term solution to this problem, he proposed the construction of small hydroelectric power plants in the Serbian enclaves in the province.
The talks on all initiatives and proposals will be continued in the next period. World Bank representatives have scheduled their next visit for early March.
