Petersen was informed about the humanitarian and political consequences of withholding the power supply to Serb communities, a move that has jeopardised the basic living conditions in the middle of winter, and concrete suggestions for resolving this problem were reiterated.
Contrary to claims by those responsible in Kosovo-Metohija, it was noted during the meeting that the problem is not of a financial or technical nature. A request was made to return power to Batuse and Lipljan immediately and that potential problems after that be resolved by expert groups from Serbia and UNMIK.
Petersen said he will consider the supply of electricity in the shortest possible time while adding that a resolution to the problem will be found, of which he will inform Kostunica.
The talks, which were attended by Head of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija Nebojsa Covic and EPS Director for Kosovo-Metohija Milutin Moracic, also covered decentralisation, security, and missing persons and it was agreed that the work on these issues should continue after the normalisation of power supply in Serb villages.
