Following last night’s UN Security Council session, Jeremic told Tanjug news agency that if nevertheless this act should be undertaken, it will not have legitimacy or international legality.
It was supported neither by the Security Council, nor by deputy head of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations Edmond Mulet, who voiced his grave concern, Jeremic observed.
He said that Mulet stated that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, reached on 2 September, regulates the issue of the customs seal and that there was no mention of deploying customs officers at Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings.
We appealed that the issues be resolved through dialogue and that this is the only way to find sustainable and long-term solutions, Jeremic underlined.
He warned that if despite all warnings by the international community and the Security Council an escalation of violence should still occur in the province, the responsibility will be only on those who chose to make such moves.
Jeremic reiterated that Serbia will continue to undertake any available steps to prevent the escalation of violence, noting that joint efforts are needed to preserve the fragile stability in Kosovo-Metohija.
